Who is behind Alza?
A single Czech stock corporation stands behind all five storefronts: Alza.cz a.s., based in Prague. Aleš Zavoral started the business in 1994; today it is the largest online retailer in Czechia. alza.de and alza.at are translated storefronts of that same company, not German or Austrian subsidiaries with their own warehouse.
The practical consequence: imprint, contract partner and return address are Czech, even when the interface is in your language and prices are shown in euro. Knowing that up front avoids surprises at the first complaint.
Why are Alza prices often below those of domestic retailers?
One central warehouse serves five markets. There is no national store chain, no second warehouse and no duplicated administration to load onto the item price. Add to that the Czech cost level in logistics and support.
The maths flips on small orders: a saving of a few euro is eaten up by cross-border shipping. On a 60 euro item with 6 euro shipping, the price gap has to be at least 10 percent before the detour beats a domestic retailer with free delivery. For monitors, laptops or consoles in the three-digit range it looks different.
Warranty and returns when buying from Czechia
The same consumer rights apply as at home: 24 months warranty under the sale of goods directive (EU) 2019/771 and 14 days right of withdrawal under the consumer rights directive 2011/83/EU. Your counterpart is the Czech seller.
The difference is logistics, not law. Returned goods travel back to Czechia, which stretches the processing cycle. On bulky devices that is the real cost factor, not the purchase price. For cross-border disputes inside the EU the European Consumer Centre is the point of contact.
